1 in 8 People with HIV Don't Know They Have It

The only way to know your HIV status is to get tested.

Our health centers provide confidential HIV testing and preventative services.

Get tested once a year if you:

  • Have had anal or vaginal sex with someone who has HIV
  • Have had more than one sex partner since your last test
  • Don’t consistently use condoms
  • Are a man who has sex with other men
  • Have shared needles, syringes, other drug injection equipment
  • Have been diagnosed with another sexually transmitted disease

In the U.S., HIV is mainly spread by sexual contact or sharing injection equipment.

The risk of HIV transmission can be reduced by:

  • Using condoms
  • Not sharing injection equipment
  • Treatment as prevention: Undetectable = Untransmittable
  • Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP)

Ask your JPCHC provider about PrEP and help paying for it.

Is PrEP right for you?

PrEP stands for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis. If you don’t have HIV but are vulnerable to HIV infection , PrEP can help you stay free from HIV.

About PrEP:

  • PrEP is a daily pill that prevents HIV infection.
  • It’s also available as a shot given every other month.
  • When taken as prescribed, PrEP is 99% effective in preventing HIV from sexual contact.

Ask Your Provider if PrEP Can Help
