  • For 75% of the total deaths, a crib or bassinet was available in the home.

ABC’s of Safe Sleep:

  • Place the baby Alone, on their Backs, in a Crib or bassinette every nap and every night.
  • If you’re in an emergency situation and you need somewhere for your child to sleep right away, consider using a laundry basket, cardboard box, or dresser drawer on a firm, flat surface.

Reach Out & Read

  • Did you know that you can begin reading to your child while they’re still in the womb? Reading to your child in their earliest days helps them develop the foundation for language and literacy skills as well as school readiness.
  • Reading before bed can help your family develop a bedtime routine, leading to bonding before bed and a great night’s sleep!
  • We understand the importance of reading to your child during their early years of life and we want to help you build their library, so you’ll receive a book at your child’s well child check!
  • According to the AAP, 1 in 3 children begin kindergarten without the language skills they need to learn to read.

Screening & Early Development

What is developmental screening?

  • The first three years of your child’s life are the most important time for brain growth and development. During this time, they’re learning more about the world around them, and building the foundation for a lifetime of physical, emotional, and social development.
  • Developmental screenings provide a quick check of your child’s development. We’ll look at: communication (how they’re letting you know what they want and need), gross motor functioning (the big movements your child will make like crawling, walking, and running), fine motor movement (grabbing their rattle or picking up and eating cheerios), cognitive development and problem solving (how their brains are working to solve problems like finding hidden toys) and personal-social skills (how they take care of themselves and interact with others)
  • It’s important that your child is screened at least once a year to make sure that they’re meeting their milestones. Our providers will do developmental screening and connect you to the appropriate resources for early intervention if your child needs additional support.

Practice The 5 R's For Healthy Brain Development

  • Read together every day with your child.
  • Rhyme, play, and cuddle with your child every day.
  • Develop routines around meals, sleep, and family fun.
  • Reward your child with praise for success to build self-esteem and promote positive behavior.
  • Develop and strong and nurturing relationship with your child as the foundation for healthy development.

Facts About Child Development

  • After birth, the brain grows 1% per day for the first three months of life. (Zero to Three)
  • 80% of a child’s brain is developed during their first three years. ( sources Reach Out and Read)
